A deeply curious & sarcastic dreamer

Megan has always been driven by curiosity (and a healthy dose of sarcasm). Whether she’s exploring the world, trying a new hobby, or diving into a lively debate, she approaches life with the wide-eyed wonder of a story-teller. A self-proclaimed multipotentialite, she believes she can do it all—so long as there’s a plan in place.

Her love of stories led her from nursing shifts in Stony Plain, Alberta, to writing her debut novel, The Ties That Bind Us (Black Rose Writing), set to be published in early 2026. She is currently working on dipping her toes into Poetry (which is odd, since she thought she didn't like poetry).

Megan’s curiosity extends beyond words. Educated at the University of Alberta, she’s spent over seven years as a Registered Nurse, navigating diverse roles before moving into education, consulting, and advocacy for high quality care in Alberta. She’s served on the board of local charity and non-profits, and now brings that same energy to the literary world as a Member-at-Large on the Writers’ Guild of Alberta Board. A passionate volunteer, Megan has spent many years with the University of Alberta’s Students Invested in Health Association, where she grew from intern to executive and eventually Chairman of the Board, helping lead projects and partnerships both locally and internationally.

"Do whatever brings you to life, then. Follow your own fascinations, obsessions, and compulsions. Trust them. Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart."

- Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic

Inspired by that "BIG magic"

Letter Play was dreamed up from a place of inspiration, and for Megan, that spark comes again and again from Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. This book was one of the reasons she decided to write in the first place, and each year she returns to its pages, ready to be recharged for another season of creativity. It remains her first—and standing—recommendation to anyone joining this community (her very first “homework assignment,” if you will).

That call to “fierce trust” in YOUR creative pursuits is the heartbeat of Letter Play.

A little bit more

I like to mix it up, but my go-to is always a cappuccino with almond milk!

Favourite book EVER:

Shantaram

Top book store:

I prefer anything locally owned, but my favourite will always be Pulp Fiction Coffee House in Kelowna, BC. It's filled with old classics, well preserved and each with their own story told by the elderly owner Max Sloan.

Must try genre:

Everything. I mean it. You have to try it all. Respect each piece of literature, regardless of genre or form.

If you can't get into the book by 40%, you can move on. If it doesn't speak to you, don't force it, you'll only resent the process. Just because others liked it, doesn't mean you have to. In fact, it makes for better conversation at book club if you don't!

Words of wisdom
(for writing):

If you're blocked, set a timer for 15 minutes and get google to randomize 5 nouns for you. Now write a nonsense story, or poem, or essay, or doodle about those words. It'll get your creative juices flowing, trust me.
